The SDSA recognise the following authorising and licencing bodies in the UK for driving skills and activities:
· DVSA for teaching learner drivers to drive on road and Approved Driving Instructor licencing
· MSA for competitive motorsport related activities including unlicenced driver
· ARDS, BARS, ARKS & AHASS for Racing Driver and Race Instructor licencing
· BORDA for 4x4 off road driving and training
· IOPD for off highway events and activities authorisation
· APCO/ACPOS for Police driver training and assessment
· Institute of Advanced Motorists for advanced on road driver training
· ROSPA for advanced on road driver training
There eleven specialist authorising bodies empowered by statute to approve driving events and activities
under The Motor Vehicles (Off Road Events) Regulations.
In the UK these are:

British Schoolboy Motorcycle Association
International Organisation of Professional Drivers Limited

Each of these may approve and authorise subsidiary bodies. For example, the Royal Automobile Club authorises the MSA for Motorsports Activity, and the IOPD authorises BORDA for Off Road Driving Activities.
